We held four successful timeline events in May and June 2011to launch our timelines and to look in detail at the centuries and more recent decades that have shaped the church and St Mary’s. Those who participated in the events, particularly those who provided their personal input to the timelines, contributed immeasurably to the process of finding out ‘who we are’.
Having looked to the past for inspiration, we turned to the future, and to our final St Mary’s timeline event which took place in September 2011. At this final event, which took the form of a ‘Songs of Praise’ service with the Kirkintilloch Male Voice Choir, we presented a sample of the wishes and dreams for the future of St Mary’s, the community and the church. The wishes and dreams present challenges to us to be taken forward.
Although this series of events is now over, you may view all the timelines and wishes and dreams presentations, and you can also still provide your input, by means of the links provided below.
The wishes and dreams presented at our final event can be accessed in two parts using the links below. The wishes and dreams are read by members of the St Mary’s ‘Seekers’ group.

Each timeline tells the story of St Mary’s against a backdrop of world, UK, Scottish and Kirkintilloch history. This `spine’ of our story is fleshed out with congregation members’ inputs. To know and understand these timelines is to know and understand who we are. It allows us to see the role the church fulfilled in the spiritual and physical well-being of its congregation and the community of Kirkintilloch. It is an opportunity to know what we may have lost and should regain and what we should be doing in the future to make things better. In looking back, we are urged to look forwards.

The period covered by this timeline saw the establishment of our parish church, the Reformation, the Disruption and other momentous changes in secular and religious lives throughout the world, Scotland and our community and parish. This period of history also delivered to us not just our parish church as we know it today, but also the Church of Scotland and the form of worship that we know and practise today.
This timeline is the first in our series to show personal inputs against the background of world, national, Kirkintilloch and St Mary’s history.

Although the timeline series of events is over, the entire congregation and those with connections to Saint Mary’s are still invited to contribute their stories and personal observations of celebrations / successes and struggles / disappointments in their spiritual lives, the life of the church and the community. By contributing our stories and inputs, our timelines will become personal and meaningful.
You are able to provide your input to the timeline by completing the input form available in MS Word at the link below and which can be saved, completed and emailed to futurefocus [at] live.co.uk
